Audio of the special meeting
At a special meeting on November 18, Council appointed Norma Corwin to the newly created Clerk/Treasurer position and hired Teri Reisner to the newly created Deputy Clerk/Administrative Assistant part-time employee position. The new 8/hr per week Deputy Treasurer position remains to be filled.
With these new personnel in place, the former Clerk and Treasurer appointed positions were effectively terminated. Treasurer Mary Kalbach and Clerk Bobbi Benedict, both Elberta residents, were invited to apply for the new positions; Kalbach applied and Benedict did not. Kalbach served in the Village Office beginning in 2014 and participated in great strides toward paying down the General Fund deficit; we have $1 million more than when she started, as she said at a recent budget meeting. Benedict was appointed Clerk in February 2019, and brought Excel and website skills to the office, and dedication to clerking for the planning commission, as Jennifer Wilkins remarked at the meeting.
This special meeting was longtime Village Trustee Bill Soper’s last council meeting (for now). Wilkins and everyone thanked him effusively for his service. We hope he’ll continue to “come yell at” us, as he promised.
Corwin and Reisner are also both Elberta residents. Their first day was Monday the 21st. Stop and say hi at the Village Office! For now, public office hours are Tuesdays 1 pm–5 pm and Thursdays 9 am–1 pm to allow for training, and new hours will be announced soon. (The office is closed this Thursday for Thanksgiving.)
Good job!
