New Business!
Curlie Girl Goods: A clothing and decor resale and consignment shop in the former Shear Class Salon space
Today I met with Carol Carlin at Elberta Mercantile to discuss our Turtle Crossing Sign Painting Party for Elberta Kids (TXSPPEK) (more on that soon), and Carol pointed right across the street to the painted windows of the former salon. “Did you hear we have a new business coming?”
Christa Gillison and Julie Banktson graciously showed us around the elegant interior, as Bill Gillison stained a wooden display rack. The shop will focus on clothing and other wearables as well as decorative items and will take some consignment. The two proprietors are particularly excited about offering items for Halloween, which can be an expensive holiday for parents.
The soft-opening is May 23, the same day as Elberta Mercantile. (We joked there should be a pedestrian skybridge from one shop across M22 to the other.) Curlie Girl will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays. Their Facebook page is up and running!
Julie Banktson is a veteran resaler, with a booth at Redeemed in Benzonia. Christa you may know for her hair artistry.
Inevitably the subject of parking came up, as we speculated on where people would do that. More people doing business in the Village: a good problem to have!
Pleased with Julie Bankston and Christa Gillison starting Curlie Girl Decor/Consignment shop.Elberta is ready for more commercial foot traffic. Some stores in Frankfort seem tied to older fashions (Think some Crystal Downs ladies) and high prices. I know one tie dye shop that does hundreds of the same designs with bright colors on the belly! Many Americans who tend toward being overweight do not need attention drawn to their bellies. Younger women and adventurous males seek newer choices. Bankston and Gillison are prominent families known for deep local connections. I hope they can find local artists who can and will sew some new fashionable items. Would like to see wearable caps and hats that protect us from increasing sun exposure in a stylish way. One piece swim suits from the 1920's. Charlie Chaplin styles complete with suspenders. Curlie Girls are good candidates for straight men or other Curlie Girls.
