August Primary Results: Ope!
From the smallest township in the smallest county (by area) in the Great Lake State
Out of 719 registered voters in our combined precinct, 249 of us cast votes in this primary election.
I’m feeling particularly patriotic this evening. Thank you once again to our team of scrappy election workers: Deb McGraw, Dave Bissell (Gilmore clerk), Joni Hennard, and Dianne Braybrook. Ms. McGraw said things went very smoothly. Without further ado:
Update on August 7: Write-Ins
Clerk Dave Bissell said via text message today that there were no official write-in candidates besides Javed Shah, who filed paperwork as a Democrat write-in for County Commission District 7. A couple of weeks ago, Jim Dulzo, chair of the Benzie Democratic Party, said Shah needed 79 votes to be added to the November ballot. But that figure is dependent on actual voter turnout. Today Keira Duvernoy, their vice chair, said the Board of Canvassers will decide in a few days if Shad made the cut.
A reminder that unless someone files official write-in paperwork, there is no way they can get elected, even if one million people write that name on the line! That goes for you, too, Elmo.
