A Sprinkling of Updates
Election results, past-due water bills, Master Plan hearing, Swapoween, Platte River Park
FEAS Millage Approved
More voters said yes than no to the school operating millage renewal on the ballot in yesterday’s election. School board member and data wrangler Aubrey Parker calculated a significant increase, 59%, in the number of voters compared with the last time the millage was on the ballot, in 2019. She said votes (and voters) were up in every township. The totals were 831 for the measure and 182 against. Here in Elberta/Gilmore, our numbers were 131 yes and 37 no. (Frankfort had 274 yes and 55 no.) You can see other townships’ numbers on the county website (scroll down to May 7 Unofficial Election Results).
Delinquent Water Bills Notice
Speaking of paying for important things we need: President Wilkins advises us to pay our past-due water bill balances by May 31. After that time, the amount we owe will be added to our property taxes.
Master Plan Public Hearing Tomorrow
Thursday at 5 pm, please come to the Community Building to voice your views on the draft Master Plan, if you haven’t already done so in writing (I haven’t even read it yet). I hear that a lot of things have already changed in the document! Which seems to indicate that the “ready for review” in the headline on that website post may have been somewhat wishful. I look forward to hearing or reading everyone’s responses, including my own. There will be a full report as soon as I can muster one up.
Spring Cleanup/Swapoween
Speaking of lying, it turns out you can bring batteries to the Village dumpsters on Spring Cleanup Day. These will be set aside and taken by someone (maybe me! I did it once) to an appropriate battery collection facility. Here’s a detailed list of what’s OK and what’s not:
Village staff will still be going around picking up items for people who can’t get them down to the Community Building. Residents are encouraged to bring items to swap that you won’t then mind throwing in the dumpster afterward. A fee of $50 will be charged for a truck-bed size amount of trash.
Will there be a lemonade stand? Maybe?
Platte River Park Opens Up — a Blueberry Patch?!
Start your Saturday May 18 with Swapoween/Spring Cleanup (9 am to 1 pm) and round it off with a trip out to Honor for the premiere of Platte River Park, the culmination of years of effort by the Honor Area Restoration Project (HARP). Although, why would you leave a newly tidy Elberta?
